In the beginning. . .
I was looking for a group to join, but I wasn’t satisfied with what I found. All the groups I visited catered to one specific genre. But that’s not the kind of writer I am. I’m a journalist, copywriter, corporate business writer, blogger and erotica writer. So to say the least, my needs were not being met.
After long debate with two very important people in my life at that time—Mrs. Emma Rodgers, owner of the iconic, Black Images Book Bazaar and Tia Shabazz (Ross), founder/producer of the Black Writers Reunion & Conference, I was encouraged to start my own group.
I had no clue about starting a writers group. But I thought, okay, I’ll attract people who were already writing who could give me guidance. But once we started, what I found was that I was not the only writer who was in need of something different and unique. SO many other writers had some of the same needs as mine, so all of a sudden, my goal became to direct a diverse support group for writers of ALL genres to help give consciousness to their writing dreams as well as my own.
That was back in 1999 and we’re still around, so we’re doing something right. Today, wowws is a discussion and critique group that provides support, discussion and feedback to writers of all genres and levels.
